Torque Tamer™

Hydraulic Bolt Torquing

This tightening service provides a simple and safe method for ensuring controlled tightening and loosening of bolts. A wide range of light, compact, safe and easy-to-use hydraulic torque tools are available; and Furmanite’s wrenches are able to accommodate a torque load of 80,000 ft-lbs. (108,465Nm)

Bolt Tensioning

Furmanite’s Bolt Tensioning service is an accurate method of tightening threaded fasteners and subsequently inducing load through advanced hydraulic technology – all without directly turning the nut thereby avoiding frictional losses. Bolt Tensioning insures that gaskets are compressed as required by the manufacturer in order to achieve optimum joint integrity.

Joint Splitting

Joints, heat exchangers and reactors can be difficult to separate after years of operation at high temperatures. Furmanite’s hydro-mechanical rigs are available specifically for this purpose. After removal, reconditioning and replacement, the joint is resealed and hydraulic tensioning and torquing is applied to offer a measured, uniform and engineered assembly.

On-Site Technical Bolting

Controlled Bolting Services – Holding it all Together

Repairs that are performed on your plant’s equipment, valves or pipes are only as good as the bolts that hold them all together. That’s why it makes sense to partner with a company that utilizes the highest-standard hydraulic bolting, controlled bolting, bolt tensioning, and bolt torquing technology. Furmanite provides complete, high-quality Technical Bolting services – from design to final tightening and measurement, our bolted connections are engineered to be the most accurate mechanically-fastened connections in the industry.

Torque Tamer™

Lose the Risk, Not the Results

Reaction torque from a pneumatic wrench packs a powerful punch when it’s suddenly transmitted to the human body. Subsequently, rotational torque-related back and abdominal injuries are among the most common causes of lost time for plant personnel.

With Furmanite’s custom-designed Torque Tamer, the human operator is removed from the point-of-operation, allowing the pneumatic wrench to be operated remotely. By incorporating a small, light-weight torque reaction arm that is permanently bolted to the wrench, valves become significantly easier to open and close; mitigating or eliminating the risk of injury.

The Torque Tamer is constructed of heavy plate steel and can be designed for large (10” or larger) gear-driven block or isolation valves. It can also be adapted to smaller, high-pressure valves that present special hazards during operation.

Torque Tamer Advantages

  • Hands-off operation reduces risk of injury
  • Custom-designed to fit practically any valve configuration or installation
  • Bolt-on design allows for safe installation in operating units
  • Allows for easy installation of Cleco® 1/2” or 3/4” drive torque-controlled NutRunner
