Special Applications
Furmanite also manufactures a custom range of portable machining equipment to the most demanding needs of its customers.
3D Modelling
Furmanite has continued to invest in modern computer facilities to further improve the company service to customers. With the new equipment and software it is now possible to carry out three-dimensional modelling of a job, proving, without intrusion to the plant, that the task will be completed in the planned way.
Investment in the technique allows an engineer to input every conceivable piece of data before the job is started. The model provides full analysis of the repair, allowing any alterations to be made, until the design engineer is confident of the design’s integrity.
All machine design projects are now undertaken using the latest 3D solid modelling software. The advantages of designing in a 3D environment are numerous, the solid models are fully associative so assemblies, individual parts and production drawings are automatically updated when changes are made at any of the modelling stages. The software will immediately calculate mass and section properties of component parts and full assemblies for use in engineering calculations. It can automatically produce manufacturing drawings based on the information stored in the solid component models and parts lists based on the information stored in the assemblies. The software can simulate assembly motion and perform collision detection to pre-empt any potential assembly problems, all of which contribute to improving the efficiency of the design process and providing cost effective solutions for Furmanite customers.
As a project progresses, Furmanite can produce a self extracting file for customers to view and animate the model on any Windows based machine without having the native CAD software installed. The client is then able to have an immediate appreciation of the machine design and provide a meaningful input to the design process.
