The Furmanite team completed all the work to a very professional and high standard, in a timely and well organized fashion. We saw no issues during the shut, which allowed us to concentrate on other matters.

The Furmanite range of drilling and boring machines and capacities:

• Drilling holes 0mm – 125mm dia (0” – 5”)

• Boring 0mm – 3500mm dia (0” – 140”)

• Line boring from 38mm dia x 1825mm long to 3500mm dia x 6400mm long (1½” dia x 6’ long to 140” x 21’ long)

 

Tolerances achievable by drilling and boring machines:

• Fixed feed borers – 1.6mm Ra (63 CLA) (depending on tool configuration used)

Standard finishes for variable feed boring bars and line borers:

• 1.6mm Ra to 6.3mm Ra (63 CLA to 250 CLA)

Tolerances achieved:

• For parallel bores finished tolerances of size + 0.012mm (0.0005”)

• Honed bores finished tolerances of + 0.005mm (0.0002”)

Power requirements, hydraulic powered drills and line boring machines:

• Air powered machines. Air at 2.7m3/min @ 6 bar, (100 CFM @ 90 PSI)

• Hydraulic powered machines. 415 – 440V 63 amp 3 phase socket outlet.

 

Field Drilling and Boring

Furmanite provides a range of drilling and boring machines for use in a variety of applications. Examples of this service are drilling holes for tapping studded or bolted connections or drilling clearance holes for fastening together components. Boring processes are used where greater precision is required, such as line boring for bearings. Fine finish and close tolerances are achieved in all these applications.

Typical drilling operations include:

  • Stud drilling
  • Screw cutting
  • Core sampling
  • Holes for tapping threads
  • Trepanning
  • Straight or taper boring and reaming
  • Clearance holes
  • Reaming for dowels
  • Pockets for probes and thermocouples
  • Removal of snapped or seized studs
  • Penetrations on bulkheads

Typical boring operations include:

  • Bearing housings
  • Cylinder liners
  • Fabricated piles to remove ovality
  • Line bore bearing blocks
  • Line bore knuckle joints or pin joints
  • Machine spigot faces for bores
