Possible approaches
Void Fill
- Clamp has no seals, but the void between the clamp and the enclosed piping is filled with compound
- Clamp is simpler to make
- Particular care is required with heavily corroded pipes
Peripheral Seal
- Clamp is equipped with circumferential seals at each bore and half joint seals
- Clamp is more complex to make
- Compound does not contact the defect
- Only very short sections of the piping are exposed to the seal pressures
