Air Cooled Heat Exchanger – Fin Fan Plug Leak Sealing
The most common repair method is to install a cap over the leaking plug and to inject compound under the cap and around the plug
There are three common methods by which the cap is held tight to the header, resisting the pressure forces due to the leaking product and the compound injection:
Single point restraint to the defective plug

The defective plug is drilled and tapped
Two point restraint to adjacent plugs

The adjacent plugs are drilled and tapped
Separate strong-back arrangement fastened to the back of the header

No drilling of plugs is required
