Challenging Leak Seal No Match for Canadian Team
A customer in Canada operating a refinery called on Furmanite to repair an expansion joint leak on a seal pot. The repair was challenging because there was only a 1.25-inch area to land the enclosure on the bottom side that was round and able to create a seal.
The Furmanite team set up breathing air and heat suits so they could get close to the leak and obtain the required measurements. The enclosure was built in four pieces to allow the expansion joint to center itself when installing the enclosure.
It took the team two days to remove the grating to allow the enclosure to fit between the bottom of the expansion joint and the I-beams. It was then injected over a few days to stop the leak. The procedure allowed the customer to continue operations without an outage.
