Solution & Implementation
Furmanite’s Integrated Mechanical Services division used a Furmanite-manufactured custom narrow-based milling machine, uniquely suited for projects having radial clearance issues. Furmanite proposed a thirty-six hour response time—from phone call to first metal chips. The client was elated and immediately authorized Furmanite to commence fixturing and mobilization on an emergency T&M authorization. No other company contacted by the client offered a faster arrival time.
Results
The entire project was completed around the clock in less than five and one-half shifts—despite anticipated stock removal at one end being over double, at 0.453”. The client reported that on prior occasions the same project took others ten shifts. The Furmanite four man machinist crew was praised for 1) speed to arrive, 2) speed to begin once arriving—making chips one hour after arrival, 3) self-sufficiency—requiring no rigging assistance, 4) accuracy—+0.003/-0.002”, achieving a 0.030” closer tolerance than others, and 5) price much lower than prior experiences.
