Reaction torque from a pneumatic wrench packs a powerful punch when it’s suddenly transmitted to the human body. It
should come as no surprise then that rotational torque-related back and abdominal injuries are one of the most common causes of lost time for process plant personnel. With Furmanite’s custom-designed Torque Tamer, however, the human operator is actually removed from the point-of-operation, allowing the pneumatic wrench to be manipulated remotely. By incorporating a small, light-weight torque reaction arm that is permanently bolted to the wrench, valves become significantly easier to open and close; and injuries are eliminated.
Safety and quality are of extremely important to Furmanite – not only in the installation and operation of the system, but also in its initial construction. The Torque Tamer is constructed of heavy plate steel that can be custom-designed to fit practically any valve configuration or installation. It can be designed for large (10” or 254mm or larger) gear-driven block or isolation valves. It can also be adapted to smaller, high-pressure valves that present special hazards during operation.
