CUSTOMER: Shell Expro Gannet platform 

PROBLEM:  When Shell UK Exploration and Production (Expro) introduced a new Induced Gas Floatation Unit (IGFU) onto their Gannet platform they had planned to finalise the installation during a 30-hour shutdown. The shutdown was then cancelled.

SOLUTION:  Expro turned to Furmanite.  We offered a world first in engineering design. It brought together hot tapping, leak sealing and double line-stopping technology to enable final tie-ins to be made while the existing piping system remained fully operational and while batches of produced water were diverted for the purpose of commissioning the new IGFU vessel.

OUTCOME:  Specialist hot tapping and engineering expertise coupled with  lateral thinking, produced a solution that is quite an achievement, and a ‘world first’.
