On-site and ship shape

CUSTOMER: Royal Navy

PROBLEM: Problems with the track joints on the hangar lift on an aircraft carrier were causing an uneven lift operation.

SOLUTION: The lift design incorporates a steel curved track fitted in segments each 178 mm wide and 610 mm long. Hydraulic rams push rollers along the track operating the lift like a scissor jack. Our on-site machining division repaired and re-profiled the can tracks on the hanger lift. Specially designed brackets were manufactured to mount a 1500mm milling rail and borer slide arms enabling the machine to follow the cam track.

OUTCOME: The existing damage was repaired and the solution installed in record time so that the ship could commence sea trials on schedule.
